Murphy’s Law: Your perfectly clear, spotless skin will only last until a day or two before your big Valentine’s Day date. Now more than ever, you need a fool proof pimple emergency plan
You should have known it was coming, should have had a pimple emergency plan in place. You did everything else: you have the perfect outfit, the perfect Valentine’s Day date planned and you bought the perfect gift. But there’s just one problem. And it’s a big one.
A day or two before your big date, and there it is. It’s massive, red, swollen and oh so painful. It’s the monster of all zits, and it’s here to ruin your perfect date.
“Why me?” you curse the world and everything on it. After all, you did everything to avoid causing or aggravating pimples this time around. Despondent, you start googling for home remedies: “How to get rid of a pimple fast.”
Stop. Breathe. We’re here to tell you it’s okay. You’ve had pimples before, and this one will be okay. Forget the home remedies nonsense for a minute, and let’s find a quick fix solution using science first.
The fastest SANE way to get rid of a pimple
Okay, so you totally know that there are proper long-term solutions to permanently clear skin. And maybe you should have considered a comprehensive treatment like Lamelle’s Clarity and Acnevelle. But you don’t have a time machine right now.
Don’t reach for any wacky supposed home cures like lemon, eye drops or basil though. There’s a lot of misinformation online, and most home remedies have never been tested in a lab. The truth is that, because of their specially formulated ingredients, the same long-term acne treatment products are your best bet even for treating acne in the short term.
That’s because a single zit or pimple is little more than a small infection. It’s red and swollen because your body is fighting off the bacteria that’s infecting it. The quickest way to get rid of it is to very gently soften and open the skin up, clear away the bacteria and get some good antibacterial and anti-inflammatories in there. Then, let it heal properly. These steps are already built into long-term solutions.
But here’s what you need to know.
Do NOT use any of these
- Lemon – despite containing a tiny bit of retinol per milligram, the citric acid in lemons are just too strong. It’s likely to just make matters worse.
- Honey – though it has some antiseptic properties, they’re far too weak/unsuitable for treating acne. In fact, this goes for all foodstuffs. Don’t use potato, vinegar, cucumber, garlic, papaya or any other foods or spices advised online.
- Water vapour – yes, water vapour (steam) can help open and clean pores, but no more than simple hot water can. Water vapour is just much more likely to burn your skin.
- Exfoliating sponges/scrubs – although ideal for PREVENTING acne, this won’t help you with an existing pimple. You’ll just irritate the skin and make things worse.
- Ice cubes – purported to bring down the swelling, it’ll actually just damage the skin and shrink the pore, making it harder to heal the infection.
Do this instead
Now, before we continue, you should know that this is not medical advice. It’s not guaranteed to work for everyone in the same way. And that’s because everyone’s skin is different. For individualised advice, you’ll need to see a doctor in person.
That said, by using the simplest and most basic knowledge of what works and what doesn’t with pimples, this is the best way we can imagine of getting rid of a pimple as fast as possible.
Step 1: Wash your hands very thoroughly
Use hot water (as hot as you can handle) and wash your hands with quality soap. Do this at least twice. Try and turn the heat up the second wash.
Step 2: Wash the pimple with hot water
Again, go as hot as you can handle, without overdoing it and burning your skin. Wash the pimple and the area around it twice. Wash very gently and don’t rub or irritate the skin in any way. And use a gentle, natural soap if possible.
For hard-to-reach areas such as your lip, nose, ear or in the hairline, use a very hot washcloth cotton cutip to gently massage the area (don’t rub).
Step 3: Cleanse the area with a salicylic acid wash
Probably the best type of acid for fighting acne, salicylic acid is famously used to treat acne in skin peels. A salicylic acid wash is naturally a milder concentration. But it offers the same great exfoliating power, combined with antibacterial and pore-cleansing abilities.
Lamelle Research Laboratories’ Clarity Active Cleanse is made with salicylic acid. But it also contains skin soothing and hydrating ingredients to calm irritated skin and boost skin barrier function.
Step 4: Use a specialised anti-inflammatory
First order of business is to get the swelling in the pimple to subside while it heals. This will help reduce visibility and painfulness, so don’t skip it if you want it gone fast.
Lamelle’s Clarity Active Control contains powerful anti-inflammatories specifically made for you to apply directly onto the pimple. It’s basically as powerful as putting on a topical medicine.
Step 5: Apply an antibacterial/antibiotic product
The fastest way to zap and pimple to kill the bacteria that’s causing it. A quality antibacterial that’s specially made for treating acne will do this quickly so the healing can start.
Lamelle’s Clarity Corrective AM and Clarity Corrective PM creams are antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. Plus, they both contain Nobel Prize-winning epidermal growth factor technology, to fast-track the healing if the skin, so the pimple disappear as fast as possible.
Step 6: Repeat all steps tonight and in the morning
You might only have a day or two. But if you keep taking proper care you’ll increase the chances of the pimple being completely gone on your date.
What if you need to conceal it?
Like most things in life, there’s no guarantee. So, if the pimple’s still visible on your date night, you can use a little concealer to hide it.
If it’s still a little red, here’s a tip. Use a little bit of green make-up over the red area, and then apply your concealer. The colour green counteracts the red. Just be sure to conceal the area properly before leaving the house.
Prevent this from ever happening again
Okay, crisis averted. But now, instead of repeating the same steps again next time, consider starting a proper long-term acne control plan. Pimples and acne are caused by a series of different factors, both externally and internally. That’s why we recommend you invest in a combination of Lamelle’s Acnevelle (tablets) and Clarity (topical) for your ideal always-clear skin. Together, these two products give an 88% improvement in problematic skin within just four to eight weeks of use.
